The Family Therapy Program helps families understand each other’s needs and find better ways to work together.
What happens in this program?
The Family Therapy team uses evidence-based, trauma-informed approaches. These approaches might include:
Techniques to work on thoughts and actions.
Emotion-focused therapy to help couples improve their relationship.
Education to help families better understand mental health challenges.
Involving families in the process of change.
Who is this program for?
This program is for families with complicated dynamics and at least one child under 18 years old with a diagnosed mental health disorder. The family must live in the Edmonton area or central or northern Alberta.
CASA strongly recommends the child has care from an individual therapist while accessing Family Therapy. This ensures the child’s individual mental health needs are appropriately supported, and allows the family therapist to focus on family dynamics. An individual therapist may be a requirement, depending on the severity of the case.
