Core Program

Core’s goal is to promote, preserve and restore the mental health of children and adolescents. The program addresses a wide range of mental health concerns.

What happens in this program?

Core therapists include the child’s family, school and community network in treatment. Families are matched with the appropriate level of service, with the possibility of “stepping up” if needed.

“Stepping up” occurs when the care team decides, together with the family, that a more intensive program would be suitable. This could mean CASA House, CASA Classrooms or a day program.

Core also offers therapeutic groups to families accessing or waiting for Core’s services. Group therapy can be used to effectively treat a variety of concerns, and provides camaraderie and learnings from others going through similar struggles.

Who is this program for?

Core is for children and youth ages three to 17 with mental illness. Families must live in the Edmonton area.

How do I access this program?

For children ages five to 17, referrals can be made by a health professional or by the family through Alberta Health Services at 825-402-6799.

For children ages three and four, a health professional or the caregivers can self-refer via the form.

Consultation with Community Partners

Core also offers consultation to staff from community organizations like Head Start, Family Resource Networks and Children’s Services. Core staff help to identify mental health issues early on and connect families to support. These services are available for children under the age of five.
