July 19-23, 2021 the CASA Foundation, the Mental Health Foundation and the BREAKING the SILENCE team partnered up to host a week long of virtual mental health community sessions. Keynote speakers presented on topics such as suicide, grief & loss, self-compassion and elder mental health. Registered participants were given the opportunity to ask questions and each session was recorded. As well, EPCOR’s ‘Heart & Soul Fund’ agreed to match ALL of the donations during the week!

Following the BREAKING the SILENCE virtual week, Sunday, July 25th, 2021 the BREAKING the SILENCE team, alongside CASA & the Mental Health Foundation, hosted their 1st Annual ‘Surjan Singh Sanghera Memorial Classic’, at the Legends Golf course, Sherwood Park, AB. The day was gorgeous and many participants expressed immense gratitude towards their friend, Surjan. Still contending with the grief of their loss, many in attendance were thankful that honouring Surjan’s life meant that they too, had to embrace their own struggles and challenges BUT they did not have to do it alone; they have each other. The most inspirational part of the day was witnessing multigenerational men openly discuss mental health. The BREAKING the SILENCE team is committed to removing barriers and stigmas associated with accessing support. By better understanding mental health we make it easier to talk about. Together we can make impacts that will ripple out into our communities!!
