On Friday, May 11th, 2018, 700 guests filled Hall D of the Shaw Conference Centre for a Roaring 20’s Jazz Age gala. Almost $500,000 was raised to support CASA Child, Adolescent and Family Mental Health. We are so grateful to our sponsors, supporters and volunteers for stepping up to support children’s mental health.
Funds raised at this year’s Carnival will go towards funding the CASA Research Chair in Child and Adolescent Mental Health. CASA has an incredible opportunity to change the face of children’s mental health and youth addictions in Alberta. We know we can always do more, and helping children and families is our number one priority. There is a need for research with the specific focus on our younger generation because they should not be diagnosed and treated the same way as adults. This exciting partnership with the Department of Psychiatry University of Alberta will generate expertise within the province of Alberta. Both CASA and the University of Alberta are committed to evidence-informed approaches to care.
We are thrilled to announce that a second initiative was also funded through our generous donors at the gala event. Parents Helping Parents, through the FamilySmartTM program, works from a ‘lived experience’ perspective and walks alongside families, youth, systems and service providers for better experiences and better mental health outcomes. CASA is embarking on this great opportunity starting with collaborative training for clinicians, parents and youth with the goal of having parents working closely with clinicians and families through a together-centred model of practice to improve the experience of all involved in the support and treatment of children and their families.
Thank you again for all that you have done to support CASA!
